Vyshyvka Chernihivschyny [Chernihiv Embroidery]
Authors: Vira Zaichenko
This is the first summary work on the embroidery of this region. It was made possible thanks to research done on the collection at the V.V. Tarnovsky Chernihiv History Museum and the author’s own significant field work. Chernihiv Embroidery tells the story of how and where these embroidered objects were used, of their materials and techniques, and of the ornamentation and compositions inherent to the culture of the Chernihiv-Sivershchyna region in the 17th–20th centuries, tracing its roots back to the time of Kyiv Rus and even early epochs. The monograph is illustrated with works from the museum’s collection and the author’s personal archive.
