Chernihiv Embroidery. RUSHNYKY . Collection of the Tarnovsky Chernihiv Historical Museum
Out of Stock
This is the first complete catalog of the V. V. Tarnovsky Chernihiv History Museum’s collection of embroidered ritual cloths. The author, Vira Zaichenko, was able to compile it after processing the museum’s collection and completing many years of fieldwork. Zaichenko discusses the ways in which cloths from the Chernihiv-Siversk land were used, the rituals connected to them, their materials and their production, and various technical approaches, ornaments, and compositions. She also traces the origins of ritual cloths, which date back to the times of Kyiv Rus and later epochs.
This catalog presents the museum collection organized by the district the 520 ritual clothes are from and provides a date and description for each, along with illustrations.
