Prepayment: till August 1, 2025. Print: end of August, 2025
The Ukrainian Museum in New York has opened the exhibition “Village to Modern,” which will run until August 24, 2025. The curators of the exhibition — Peter Doroshenko, Oksana Semenyk, and Myroslava Mudrak, the author of the essay— explore the contexts of folk and village tradition and the practice of professional artists in the exhibition catalogue.
Peter Doroshenko: Ukrainian folk art significantly influenced the trajectory of Ukrainian art in the first sixty years of the 20th century. Through the works of the Burliuks, Delaunay, Exter, Hnizdovsky, Krychevsky, Malevich, Siniakova,Sobachko-Shostak, and Yermylov, the symbiosis of traditional craft and modernist innovation reveals a vibrant cultural tapestry that not only celebrates a rich heritage but also redefines it within the context of contemporary art. This synthesis of past and present continues to resonate within the narrative of Ukrainian artistic identity.
