This monographh explores how Ukrainian identity is represented in the graphic design of Soviet Ukraine and the Ukrainian Diaspora in 1945-1989. Research was based on Soviet Ukrainian posters and the covers of periodicals of the Ukrainian Diaspora, as well as archival documents and interviews with the authors. The present work defines the contexts in which the works were created; it establishes the semantics of the symbols used for the visual representation of Ukrainian identity; it describes the means used to create the images of Ukraine and Ukrainians; and it analyzes the styles of the pictures and their connection with the artistic and design trends of the twenties century.
