Z krajiny ryzhu ta opijiu (“From the Land of Rice and Opium”) is the second travelogue by Sophie Jablonska, written during 1932-1935, when she worked as a camerawoman in China and Indochina. Jablonska describes in detail all the complexities of shooting film reports and photographs in an environment where people still believe that the camera steals the soul. Her novel is dynamic, filled with vivid characters and unusual adventures. It was first published in 1936 in Lviv.
