Max Vityk. The Warriors of Light
Max Vityk was born in 1964 in Lviv, Ukraine. He came to art in the late nineties, after graduating from university and working as a geologist in Texas. Vityk's background in geology has greatly influenced his painting style—his large canvases resemble multilayered volcanic rock outcrops and impress with energy of naturally vibrant colors. As one art critic wrote, “When Vityk looks at a mountain, he doesn’t see its top, but the forces that created it.” His works can be found in private, corporate, and museum collections around the world. Vityk currently lives and works in Cairo.
This book presents Vityk's latest, seminal series of paintings—The Warriors of Light—twelve major works reflecting the historical revolutionary events Vityk lived and moved through during 2011–15. Also included here are insightful descriptions of the artist, his development and influences, the genesis of The Warriors of Light series, and the impact of Vityk's work in essays by Nahla Samaha (Cairo), Annelien Bruins (New York), Victoria Burlaka (Kyiv), and Olesya Avramenko (Kyiv).
