About the book

This bilingual album of works by the well-known Ukrainian artist from Philadelphia includes paintings and sculptures from across many years.

Jurij Hura was born in Galicia before World War Two. When he was still a young boy, he and his mother and grandfather, the famous activist and priest from the village of Chaikovychi, Fr. Jurij Kmit, were forced to flee to Peremyshl (today Przemyśl, Poland) to save themselves from the Soviet “liberators” who were trying to deport the family to Siberia.

A graduate of the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts, Hura has worked in Poland, Italy (in particular, he designed the Greek Catholic museum in Rome at the request of Patriarch Slipyj), and the USA where he got married and still lives today.
