Vasyl Ermilov (February 25, 1894–January 6, 1968, Kharkiv) was an outstanding Ukrainian artist, a practitioner of Cubo-Futurism, and the founder of the Ukrainian branch of Constructivism. The monograph traces the artist’s biography and fundamental stages in his creative career. The author examines Ermilov’s art through an engaging tale of the artist’s life and the epoch in which a new, modern art flourished. He notes in the foreword: “In this book, I wanted to present both my own view of artist Vasyl Ermilov and the creative and personal circles he ran in. I wanted to ‘read’ him through previously unknown photographs, documents, letters, and accounts of those who knew him well and have been here in my book given the opportunity to speak.” In particular, this book contains for the first time the correspondence of Vasyl Ermilov and Liudmyla Troianska, the artist’s last sweetheart. The name comes from a headpiece to a letter Ermilov wrote, a smallish painting entitled “Vasyl Ermilov Awaits Spring,” which is here being published for the first time and has lent itself to the title of the book.
